MSIA Sarawak Industry Visit 2026 - SMD Semiconductor

MSIA kicked off Sarawak Industry Visit 2026 with our first stop at SMD Semiconductor, an important engagement to strengthen industry collaboration and gain on-the-ground insights into Sarawak’s accelerating semiconductor landscape.

We were pleased to be hosted by En. Shariman, CEO of SMD Semiconductor and their team, who briefed our delegates on the current Sarawak semiconductor ecosystem and the strategic direction under the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030 - Beyond Moore’s Law.

In his sharing, En. Shariman emphasised that SMD’s mission is to translate ambition into capability, with the Roadmap serving as a focused set of strategies and projects shaped by lessons learned, and practical steps ahead.

A key emphasis was also placed on:

Sarawak’s aspiration to build the Silicon Longhouse of Asia, a distinctive, Sarawak-led vision for an integrated semiconductor ecosystem anchored on infrastructure, partnerships, and talent, to enable long-term industrial growth and innovation.

The discussion also highlighted the critical importance of talent development and Sarawak’s expanding capabilities across the value chain.

MSIA looks forward to continuing these engagements with industry and state stakeholders as we work together to strengthen Malaysia’s semiconductor competitiveness across regions, capabilities, and talent pipelines.
